Making Plans: People with Learning Disabilities Reach for the Stars
Congratulations were expressed on the13th June as 35 people with learning difficulties, family carers and support staff from Swanley, Sevenoaks and Edenbridge came together at the Mulberry Centre in Sevenoaks to learn about person centred planning.
The course and future programmes of this kind are part of the Sevenoaks District Partnership Groups work to support the inclusion of disabled people into all aspects of community life providing them with the same opportunities as everyone else. Person centred planning, is at the heart of this as people with learning disabilities record what is most important to them, how they want to live and develop their own action plans for the future.
Ann Waghorne, who shared her story on the day and presented certificates to those attending said “I have enjoyed being here so much and I look forward to meeting other people and encouraging other disabled people to work towards their hopes and dreams”.
Values Incorporated a local training and development organisation delivered this programme in conjunction with the District Partnership Group, with funding provided by Kent County Council. Steve James, Chairman of the District Partnership Group said “person centred planning allows people with learning disabilities to make real choices in lives and the partnership group was delighted that so many people came to the training day. It will make a real difference to people’s lives.”
