Swanley Train Station Opens up
Network Rail has announced that Swanley train station will be step free hopefully before July 2012 in readiness for the Para Olympic Cycling Championships at nearby Brands Hatch.
Two lifts, dual height handrails, new flooring and accessible toilets will be installed amongst other improvements.
These welcome changes come after almost 4 years of campaigning by us and local groups including Community Futures Kent and The Older Persons Forum. We wish to thank our MP Michael Fallon for highlighting the issue on his website, in the local press and in Government.
We are delighted to work with Network Rail and Southeastern on the important project for the community alongside the Sevenoaks District Council, Swanley Town Council and community groups representing disabled people.
We will be supporting Community Futures Kent to prepare for the Para Olympics and being part of the local Olympic celebrations welcoming visitors from around the world to our district.
